Coding method

On 21 March 2011, Afghanistan introduced a new postcode system and domestic addressing standard. Under the new system, postcodes consist of four digits: the first two digits (ranging from 10–43) correspond to the province, while the last two digits correspond either to the city/delivery zone (range 01–50) or to the district/delivery zone (range 51–99). Afghanistan’s new postcode system is defined at the province level, but has been designed to easily incorporate future changes should it be expanded to the street and delivery point level. The complete postcode listings for Afghanistan have also been integrated into the current release of the Universal POST*CODE® DataBase.

Address format

According to the new addressing standard, postcodes should be placed on a separate line after the province name and before the country name as follows:

Mr Ahmad Towheed
Street, House No. 240
Kabul
1001
AFGHANISTAN
